Welcome! We are so glad you’ve found us. Please join us for worship on Sunday morning at 10:00 am and look around the website to get to know us.
A bit of helpful info:
Our worship service is held at 10:00 am on Sunday mornings. Our worship is liturgical – which means we have a pattern of reading the Bible, prayers and singing that we follow each week. Things change week to week and throughout the year, but the basic shape of the service is the same. If the liturgy is something new to you we have a bulletin to help you understand the service. Our ushers will hand you a bulletin that tells you exactly what’s happening when. We celebrate the sacrament Holy Communion the first Sunday of the month, as well as on the feasts and festivals of the church year.
As a congregation weekly worship and a time of fellowship are important to us. Just as we need to take time regularly to hear God’s word and be fed by the Lord’s Supper, it is important for us to connect each week with one another. We also love to meet new people. Every week we have coffee and tea with a chance to reconnect after worship, to talk and share some time together. On the third Sunday of the month we have our Coffee Bar downstairs, which is a time for coffee and tea with lots of good food and homemade treats.
Learning the Christian faith
We are committed to growing in our faith and understanding of God and his word, and there are plenty of opportunities for someone at every age! From September to June, we offer Sunday School and Christian Education classes after worship from 11:15-12:15. There are classes for children, youth and adults. Children learn about Jesus and the Bible in age based classes. Junior High students participate in our Confirmation class, a two year program which studies the Bible, Martin Luther’s Small Catechism and Christian theology. There is also a Senior High class for those who have gone through the Confirmation program. The Adult Bible Study class is open to all adults, and every-other Sunday morning there is a separate Women’s Bible Study class. Men’s Bible Study is held on the first and third Saturday morning of the month.
What is a Lutheran?
Zion is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Lutherans are a branch of the Christian church that believe that we are justified (made right) with God by faith in Jesus Christ and not by anything we do or say. This faith God gives us as a gift, which is why we call it the good news, or the gospel. Our salvation and God’s love are something we never have to earn or buy, they are free from our God! If you’d like to know more about what the ELCA is and what we believe, you can check out the website at: www.elca.org.
That’s some basic information about us, if you have any questions or would like to know more about Zion and all the great stuff that happens here, please feel free to get in touch. Our contact info is on the side of every page. I’m happy to get together and answer any questions you may have, or just to talk. I invite you to join us at Zion!
